As part of its Feed the Future initiative, USAID has committed to invest more than $100 million in sustainable intensification strategies for smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa. To implement those strategies, USAID needed to look at geographic concentration of poverty, reliance on agriculture, and key farming systems to make hard choices about where boosting productivity would offer the most promising outcomes for poverty reduction, food security, and environment sustainability. Furthermore, it needs to track and maximize the effectiveness of those investments over time. USAID called on IFPRI’s HarvestChoice team to provide specialized targeting, monitoring, and evaluation support.
The IFPRI's HarvestChoice team participated in the design workshops (in Tamale Jan 9-12, Addis Ababa Jan 30- Feb 2, Dar es Salaam Feb 6-9).
