Agricultural management and public policy decisions require access to reliable and well documented sub-national production data for sub-Saharan. Unfortunately such data are scarce. Few countries in the region undertake regular statistical surveys of agriculture. Historical data that does exist has often not been digitized and is difficult to obtain.
Mindful of this dearth of historical data on agricultural inputs, outputs, and technology use, HarvestChoice launched its data rescue effort to discover, retrieve, scan and make available online past agricultural census reports throughout the region. The African Agricultural Data Rescue Initiative (AADRI) is a joint undertaking by HarvestChoice in conjunction with the Center for African Agricultural Research Policy (CAARP) at the University of Pretoria, the Institute for Agricultural Engineering of the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) of South Africa, and the Statistics Division of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in collaboration with agricultural statistical agencies throughout the region.
Here on our site, you can search or browse our full list of recovered agricultural censuses.
