Abstract

What is MAPPR?

MAPPR provides easy access to over one hundred layers of spatially-explicit, agricultural-related data for sub-Saharan Africa. Use MAPPR to “drill through” and extract information from fine-resolution data layers (each layer holds ~300,000 10km x 10km grid cells covering the sub-Saharan African region). By selecting demographic, market access and crop production layers, for example, users can tabulate population, travel time to markets, and crop area attributes at any user-defined location, customized area, or geographical domain. MAPPR maps, tabulates and charts a broad range of sub-national agricultural development indicators. By design, MAPPR targets the needs of investors, policymakers and program managers, as well as the analysts and technical specialists who support them.

Get MAPPRing!

To start open MAPPR by clicking on the icon in the upper right corner of your screen. Once inside MAPPR, begin your data quest by clicking on the tab in the upper left corner to:

  1. Select area: select the geographic extent of the area you’d like to explore. Choose either a Region (multiple countries) or an individual Country.

Next... work sequentially down the line of tabs to:

  1. Select indicators: select up to 20 development indicators of interest.
  1. Summarize indicators: select a single (approx. 10x10km2) or multiple location(s) on the map, customized area, geographic domain or marketshed by which the indicators should be reported.

Finally… let MAPPR tabulate your data query:

  1. Display results: a summary of your results will automatically display with your spatially aggregated map in the form of tables, charts and downloadable data.
