Households and Markets : Consumption

Consumption

One of the key sets of cross-country indicators extracted from nationally representative household consumption/expenditure surveys is that related to standardized per capita consumption of a wide range of food products. All consumption values are reported on a per capita basis for all food items itemized in the individual survey documents of each country, with some attempt made to standardize on the names and definitions of food items across countries. Per capita consumption values accessible through this page are reported (for the countries so far processed) as survey means aggregated by:

  • First sub-national administrative unit,
  • urban and rural household category
  • household income (expenditure) tercile, and
  • sex of head of household.

In this initial website release user data query and retrieval of cross-country household consumption data is enabled using only the following Google mapping widget. This will soon be augmented by the ability to query, summary reports (see examplesicon), and download multiple household consumption means as we continue to expand the functionality of the HarvestChoice web site.
